October 2007 Updates

I found this document well-suited for my purposes, which was a relief after having difficulty getting the FC7 install to work (it helps to follow directions). Anyway, I'm adding to this document as a result of my own successful install. To test these, I completely reinstalled Mac OS X, and followed the my own directions for the Fedora 7 installation. As far as the Fedora OS installation goes (as opposed to the drivers) I'm pretty sure that these directions are tight, and there are no unnecessary steps.

  1. I discussed and emphasized that you have to have an external source with the installation packages. In my reading, I didn't find any way to get around this problem in Fedora 7, and have found other people using external sources as well.
  2. I switched the order, putting the rEFIt step before the sfdisk and grub-install commands. The original order did not work for me. Also, I deleted the reference to the rEFIt "enable-always.sh" script. This wasn't necessary. However, I found that it was necessary to boot a second time to get the rEFIt menu to come up.
  3. The style in uneven, since I switched from first person (written by Jemarceau) to third person only in the areas I edited.

It would be great if there was a reference, or a few more details on how to do the HTTP install. I'm not familiar with that, and would be helpful for someone who doesn't have USB hardware. Comfortably Paranoid 19:34, 15 October 2007 (PDT)
